Some of you might remember Spike from over a year ago when I was asking for help as he was diagnosed with FIP and we wanted to try this super expensive treatment to give him a chance. It turned that it was a misdiagnosis and it was calici flare up which cleared with a course of Interferon injections.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

I am writing this post with a very heavy heart as Spike has been very recently diagnosed with oral mouth cancer that attacked the right side of his beautiful face and Spike doesn’t look anything like in this picture.<\/div>\n

Local vets can not do anything and there is no apparent treatment other than palliative care. We all know that mouth cancer is a horrible disease and can be very aggressive and spread quickly.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Spike is still eating and is on pain relief and antibiotics.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Our lovely vet at Medivet SH learned about a modern treatment for cancers called electrochemotherapy and referred Spike to the RVCS oncology department for a consult to see whether this can help him to have a bit more time with us.<\/div>\n

This treatment is offered to animals where the cancer is beyond the point of surgery and chemo drugs are not indicated because might not actually work. Although electrochemotherapy is mainly used for the local control of superficial cutaneous tumors, pets with tumors of the mouth can also often benefit \u2013 typically a treatment of<\/div>\n

oral melanomas<\/div>\n
squamous cell carcinomas<\/div>\n
acanthomatous ameloblastoma<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Spike has squamous cell carcinomas and we hope that there is a chance for him.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The cost of electrochemotherapy is yet to be confirmed but will most likely reach thousands if other tests will be needed such as CT Scan. As the vets require 50% deposit on the day, we need to reach out for help and fundraise for Spike.<\/div>\n

Please remember that we also have poorly Teddy in the hospital and his stay plus treatment will most likely come up to \u00a3400-500 on top of everything else.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

We don’t want to deny a cat a chance of extended quality of life and I believe that they all deserve a chance. We’ve been taking and we will continue taking in our care cats with health issues, end of life, less fortunate, and with a terminal illness but we need a bit of help to be able to pay their veterinary treatment.<\/div>\n
